Proudly introducing Altenburger & Leikeim
We were so excited! Getting to personally know the family behind them, their stories, the breweries – Bastian Leikeim with Altenburger’s/Leikeim’s Alex & Udo – as part of the “Made in Germany” group at Fine Food Australia over 2 years ago. From the beginning we were on the “same wavelength” – sharing the same passion, same focus, same family dedication, same business ethos .. and same jokes at the end of the day.
Founded in 1871, the Thuringian brewery, Altenburger Brauerei, rose from difficult times when the Franconian Leikeim family jumped in to help this brewery in 1991. Now, reaping in many awards, Altenburger Brauerei is testimony to their hard work and brewing excellence, with Bastian Leikeim ranked 12th best in the world at the 2019 International Beer Sommelier Championships in Italy. Now that is someone who truly knows a great beer when he tastes one – it’s in his DNA!
Leikeim’s own family brewery – now under the guiding hand of 5th generation brew-master Andreas Leikeim and team – is a story of strength against all odds and sheer hard work. When family tragedy hit, the whole family pulled together – even at a young age – and never gave up! This is a key to Leikeim’s success today. The results can be tasted in their carefully crafted brews, hugely popular with locals far and wide … even reaching Asia and Australia’s shores! Check out the namesake predecessor, Andreas Leikeim and team, in 1929 at the brewery.

Take one of the oldest brewing methods in the world, best German hops and malts, and you have an exceptional, exciting beer experience to make a beer connoisseur’s heart beat faster!
This rare Steinbier (stone beer) from Leikeim, is a truly luscious drop and one to be savoured, to the very last drop. Its unique rich malty caramel flavours are infused through the red-hot stones used in the brewing process. Once we tasted it we couldn’t wait for the right opportunity to introduce it to Australian beer-lovers – and NOW is the right time!

Koblenzer’s Lager-style Bräu was a real favourite amongst Queensland’s beer-lovers first time round, so it’s no surprise that it’s back! Together with Koblenzer’s Weizen (wheat beer) and Pils – these are true classic German beers in best century-old brewing tradition – and only imported by us.
Low-carb & non-alcoholic .. but so full of flavour!
Leikeim’s non-alcoholic Weissbier (wheat beer) is a real gem amongst non-alcoholic beers. You’ll rarely find such a full-flavoured wheat beer with <0.5% PLUS the lowest carbs & sugars we’ve found in a non-alcoholic beer for ages. <0.1g sugar, 3.7g carbs and only 21 calories (per 100ml) – perfect for diabetics, health fans or after mowing the lawns on a hot summer’s day!
