Ahr valley: exceptional wines, spectacular beauty
German wines? You think of the Rhine and Moselle River regions, perhaps the Pfalz or Franken, Rhine-Hesse, Württemberg or down to Baden – but most likely NOT the Ahr Valley.
The Ahr, a tributary of the Rhine River and only 30km north of the Moselle, is known locally and within Germany as THE Pinot Noir growing area of excellence. The Romans first brought grape vines to this valley and started growing them, and its prestigious reputation has been kept a secret … until now. We lived in the region, and soon learned to love and appreciate their exceptional wines so much so that Reimer even swapped careers for the local wine & hospitality industry! We know their slate-covered steep slopes with ancient vines, the quaint little towns, the seasonal & wine festivals and each castle ruin like the back of our hand.
Brogsitter: 420 years of wine-making tradition
An important part of the Ahr Valley’s wine tradition is the Brogsitter family. Sourcing the best grapes across Germany, all their wines are made by their award-winning winemakers in the cellars of their winery. Don’t forget to stay at and visit their amazing Michelin-star restaurant-hotel, Sanct Peter, in Walporzheim, which has been welcoming guests with food and wine within its stone walls since 1246 – yes, that’s almost 800 years!
The new wines on the block!
We’re excited to introduce our new additions. Click on the wines below to learn more Fast Facts about them, or visit our Wine Guide or complete wine range for information on all our wines.
Sparkling
- Riesling sparkling: Astoria is Brogsitter’s most popular white sparkling, and a rarity in Australia as it’s made from 100% Riesling grapes.
- Piccolos: Mini-size. A perfect way to sample our other rosé and red sparkling too, Prima Rosa, and Rotsekt.
White
- Pinot Gris (Grauburgunder): grown for centuries in Germany and perfect for Australian summers, we have a solid “typical” German-style Pinot Gris, Terra Blanc; and Brilliance, an excellent dry-style wine from selected late-harvested grapes.
- Riesling: New and highly popular Hochgewächs Riesling from the Saar. New vintages of your favourites: Organic (bio) Riesling, and our premium Riesling from the exclusive Trittenheimer Apotheke slope along the Moselle.
Red
- Ahr valley Pinot Noirs: We’ve managed to secure a few cases of Ahr-Schiefer – 2020 winner of the “Ahr Valley Classic Wine of the Year” award; as well as the local favourite, Edition B. Our top-level Pinots are back too: prestigious Ad Aram, and our most exclusive Hommage (Pinot Madeleine) from ancient wine stocks.

P.S. a big Danke Schön (thank you) to our good friend and proud local, Andrea Reisner – and lover of Brogsitter’s Rotsekt red sparkling – for her beautiful main photo of the Ahr Valley during a hike through the vineyards in autumn a week ago.
