Celebrate Year of the Ox – Louise’s food-drink pairing
I love Chinese & Lunar New Year. I love the festive celebrations, the banquets of exquisite dishes bringing together of family and friends for evenings on end … and I love German wines, beers and juices too.
Today, I’ve brought these together – discover my personal food+drink tips for Chinese & Lunar New Year.
Louise’s food + beer tip
“Koblenzer Bräu is a perfect all-rounder beer for all Asian dishes. The special Leikeim Steinbier, with its luscious malt-caramel flavours, is ideal for Korean & Japanese curries or Chinese dishes with rich-flavoured sauces.”
Louise’s food + wine tip
“German Riesling is the absolutely perfect wine to complement Asian dishes. We’ve an excellent Riesling selection for all wine-lovers – from crisp dry finish to luscious semi-sweet full fruit flavours. The ideal red wine for your New Year’s banquets is definitely a German Pinot Noir. It is rich in complexity and flavour but does not overpower the dishes as Australian reds tend to do. My personal recommendation? A Rotsekt red sparkling wine made from Pinot Noir grapes – the bubbles of champagne plus the deep red colour, and a deliciously rounded rich Pinot Noir flavours.”
Louise’s food + juices tip
“Ginger-mix is a refreshing choice for all salads and light dishes. For New Year banquets I love the rich colour & flavours of the different red juices, such as Berry Selection, Cherry Nectar, Pomegranate & Grape, or AntiOx. Mix half-half with sparkling mineral water for non-alcoholic cocktail and a healthy alternative to soft drinks. Kids (and seniors) will love the organic Rotbäckchen Classic juice, rich in Vitamin C & iron, either pure or mixed with sparkling water.”
